Breast Implants
A
Breast Implant surgery, also known as
Augmentation Mamaplasty, is performed to increase the breast's size, through the insertion of
silicone breast implants.
The
breast implant surgery or
augmentation mammoplasty takes from 1 to 3 hours and is done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with assisted sedation. Incisions might be made underneath the breasts, through the areola or armpit.
The method of inserting and positioning your
silicone breast implant will depend mainly on your anatomy. The incision is usually made either in the crease where the breast meets the chest, in the armpit or around the areola - the dark skin surrounding the nipple. If there is some skin laxity, usually resulting from previous pregnancies, additional incisions may be necessary during the
breast implant surgery or
augmentation mammoplasty.
Therefore, a Breast lift procedure may be combined with a
breast implant surgery or
augmentation mammoplasty in order to obtain the best results. Every effort will be made to assure that the incisions are placed so resulting scars will be as inconspicuous as possible. Working through the incision, your breast tissue and skin is lifted to create a pocket, usually directly behind the breast tissue or in some cases, underneath your chest wall muscle (the Pectoral Muscle). The
silicone breast implants are then centered beneath your nipples.
The
breast augmentation or
breast implant surgery usually takes one to two hours to complete. Stitches are used to close the incisions, which may also be taped for greater support. A bandage may be applied over your breasts to help with healing.
After the
breast implant surgery or
augmentation mammoplasty procedure, the patient should wear a compression bra, in order to support the new breasts and also to help to reduce swelling. In about 20 to 30 days, the patient can resume its routine.
Breast Reduction
Breast Reduction surgery, also known as
Reduction Mamaplasty, is recommended for patients who experience pain and discomfort due to the excessive size and weight of their breasts.
The
Breast Reduction surgery or
Reduction Mamaplasty takes from 2 to 3 hours and is done under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. During this
Breast Reduction surgery or
Reduction Mamaplasty procedure, the excess tissue, fat and skin will be removed. The areola will also be replaced and, if necessary, reduced.
After the
Breast Reduction surgery or
Reduction Mamaplasty procedure, the patient should wear a compression bra from 45 to 60 days after the
Breast Reduction surgery or
Reduction Mamaplasty surgery, in order to support the new breasts and also to reduce bruising. In about 20 to 30 days, the patient can resume its regular activities.
Breast Lift
The
breast lift surgery also known as
Mastopexy, is recommended for correction of sagging breasts, due to a significant weight loss, pregnancy or even due to gravity.
The procedure takes from 1 to 3 hours and will lift the breasts through the removal of the excess skin. The areolas and the nipples will also be replaced, reshaping the breast. Anesthesia used might be general or peridural with sedation.
After the
breast lift surgery also known as the
Mastopexy procedure, the patient should wear a compression bra, in order to support the new breasts and also to help reduce the swelling.
It is important to remember that the goal of the
breast lift surgery or
Mastopexy is to lift the breasts, and not to increase the size. If increasing the breast's size is also desired, the patient should talk to the doctor about the possibility of combining the
Breast Lift surgery with the
Breast Implants surgery.
Additional surgical procedures might be necessary, such as to remove some excess or to improve obtained results. Additional treatments or procedures might only be performed after 2 years.
It is recommended that the breast, abdomen and liposuction procedure candidates have surgery done at a regular weight or under a specific recommendation (after bariatric surgery). After the procedure, it is important to take special care with meals and nutrition as well as proper physical exercises. This way, the surgical results will remain steady for a longer period of time.
